Book/Movie Recommendations

Here I will be recommending the latest books I’ve enjoyed, or my classics that are a must-read. Also great movies. I’ll probably have to do subjects as I remember more, but for now they’ll just be a big jumble. =) For more ideas for a good read, visit teenlitreview.blogspot.com

BOOKS

-Unwind by Neal Shusterman. Science Fiction, gives an interesting twist to the issue of abortion

-Myst series, by David Wingrove. That’s right, the books. You may have heard of or even played the amazing video game series, but if you have not read the books, you are missing out. Read them!

-Matched, by Allie Condie (sequel’s coming out in Fall 2011!)

-Any of Cameron Dokey’s books in the series ‘Once Upon a Time’

-Pascal’s Wager by Nancy Rue

-Any of Gail Carson Levine’s books

-Sam Keaton: Legends of Laramie series by Sigmund Brouwer. Includes:

Evening Star

Silver Moon

Sun Dance

Thunder Voice

-The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale

-Francine Rivers, especially “The Mark of the Lion” series and “The Prophet”, on Amos. For mature readers.

-The “Archives of Anthropos” series, by John White

-Any by Melody Carlson, but especially the Caitlin series

-The Hunger Games. Really just the 1st and 2nd books, though

-The Wilderking trilogy (a re-telling of the biblical story of David)  by Jonathan Rogers, which includes

The Bark of the Bog Owl

The Secret of the Swamp King

The Way of the Wilderking

CLASSICS

-Nicholas Nickleby by Charles Dickens

-Paradise Lost by John Milton

-Macbeth is an enjoyable ‘Shakespeare’ classic.

-Fahrenheit 451

-Around the World in 80 Days

-Gone With the Wind

MOVIES

(also check www.pluggedinonline.com or www.screenit.com)

- Fireproof

-Facing the Giants

-Flywheel

-Faith like Potatoes

-Paycheck (a little corny, but otherwise really good)

-The Court Jester, with Danny Kaye

-Secret Life of Walter Mitty (except it’s out of print…)

-Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

-The Egg and I

-Finian’s Rainbow

-You Can’t Take It With You

-Newsies

-Signs

-Ever After

-While You Were Sleeping

Depending on your humor, I would also add:

-Pink Panther

(The latter two with discretion)
